Michael James White is one of the funnest, talented and most versatile artists you’re likely to ever meet. He picked up a pencil at age 2 and never put it down. During childhood he was inspired to imitate cute Disney cartoons, 70’s Pop Art, Animal photographs, Old Master Paintings and Comic Books. All in that order. First in York South Carolina then In his Rock Hill home He moved through each of these phases self driven with little or no guidance. He was published by age 10. By age 14 he was creating Court Room Sketches for his local News Paper, the Rock Hill Evening Hearald while Painting Murals for churches and businesses. During this period he won numerous awards and ribbons from art shows. He could also be found creatively exploring the worlds of Fantasy Art. By 17 Michael Had become the youngest and most ambitious member of an art team who produced Pastel Portraits at Carowinds Amusement Park near Charlotte, North Carolina.


That Fall Michael entered into the Newly formed Illustration Program at the Ringling College of Art in Sarasota Florida. He Freelanced his way through art school and thanks to scholarships he graduated in 1985 with Awards and Honors. During school and afterwards in New Haven Connecticut, Michael presided over his own Small Press Publishing Companies. His publications featured Comics, Fantasy Art, Poetry and Literature with Social/Environmental Commentary. Proving that all his hard work and the positive law of attraction had payed off, Marvel, DC and Topps Comics took an interest in Michael’s work giving him the platform he had dreamed of since childhood.


More success followed. Over the years Michael’s Ambition grew and blossomed as he took on art projects for big and small clients alike. Some of his most noteworthy clients are Amaco Oil, Delta Airlines, Tropicanna, Hyatt, Ritz Carlton, Atlantis Resort, Cesar Pelli and Associates, Knights of Columbus, Forida Power and Light, Comcast, New Haven Police Dept, Sarasota Police Department, Stephen King and of coarse way too many smaller companies and individuals to mention.


Artistically, there seems to be no limit to what Michael James White can do. Over the years he’s created Board Games, Interactive DVD’s, Album and CD Covers, Magazine Covers, Editorial Illustrations, Children’s Books, Coloring Books, BillBoards, Safety Posters, T-Shirt Designs, Logos, Vehicle Wraps, Bubble Gum Cards, Concept Art, Character Design and Fine Art for private buildings. Basically, If you want it or need it Michael James White can do it with a smile.


“Art is Life and Life is Art” is something you might hear Michael say in one of his many Workshops around the USA. At the Ringling College of Art Where he’s been instructing for over 20 years You might also hear him say, “if you aren’t having fun you’re doing it wrong”. Michael Loves people and has a lot to say about a lot of things. If you are looking for his special flavor of artistic wisdom you can find Michael enjoying a joyful life and successful career in his Sarasota Florida home. He lives with his cat Salem Moon Shadow and 30 mostly unnamed Koi. He Teaches Art, Freelances, Draws Caricatures at events and at parties while also working on his original Comics and Painting Landscapes inspired from his Travels.
